This theme extends to two specific areas: basic forms- minimal forms that exist through the history of pottery and natural forms - human forms such as curvy female bodies and shapes of natural objects.•Forms for pottery are like the structure, or the bones of a human, it is a very important part. Through the history of pottery, it is clear that we can see the changes and development of forms. Until now, forms were broken into two parts, one is very minimalistic and one is natural and organic. I want to combine these together and combine the minimalistic and natural forms into one object to show the impact and connection.
Project no.2 Forms
sakewere set
the whole set contains 3 bottles and one cup, they were hand carved on double-layer-casted slipware from colour stain, with transparent glaze applied inside the platinum lustre on the rim of the cup. For this piece, I aimed to create an unique texture through the fusion of different colours and the special techniques of improved modern casting and the traditional elaborate carving by my own developed knowledge, in order to control the light weight quality of each objects and to achieve an relation with the sensational touch by hands.
Project no.4 Decadentism
The collection of slip-casted plates with decorated surfaces were made for the "decadentism" project. For this project I achieved a collection of completed pieces of "nasty" textures with "mad" colours from glass frit as the main glaze and slip-casted plates(white earthenware) as the main form to express the world of decadence - which is mainly about modern mental illness, daily destruction and the dark negative side of human life in relation t the decay of nature. Technically, this project contains the uses of lathe, mould making, slip-casting, and kiln firing. I used real flowers to create the fragile surface with different types of glass frit to pick up all the details with the test in different temperatures of firing process, in order to show the impact of the decayed natural fusion and the beauty of death. I also made a couple of throwing pieces based in this project as the additional exploration. since i started to focus on slip casting and hand carving techniques under the studies of contemporary aesthetic culture. I intended to discover a balance of the expression between the power of sensitivity and insensitivity.
This project is a ceremonial collection of diminutive teawares. The most intricate one is the Wistaria Cascade Chawan. The white earthenware bowl is hand-thrown and carved with the veins that inspired by the blue-purple wisteria which were moving with the wind as a cascade in King street, Cambridge. the process contains throwing, carving bisque firing and glaze firing. the glaze i used for this project is colour stain with transparent glaze, the firing temperature was 1100 degree. The purpose of this work is to express a meaning of fragile delicacy, the sense of freshness before death within the memory of nature, a poet for the past also the beauty of fragmentation.
